A large mass of rocks and soil has slid down the mountain, completely blocking the Librazhd-Qafë Thanë road axis since 11:00, in the area known as the Dragostunjës Bend.
The head of the Albanian National Road Safety Agency, Ami Kozeli, said in an interview with Report TV that teams are continuing work to initially open one axis after landslides on the Librazhd-Qafë Thanë axis this morning.
"We have taken the necessary measures. The axis should have been released, but due to two rock massifs it was delayed. Safety is primary. We aim to unblock and open one axis, so the line of cars coming from Korça is longer. For 30 minutes, traffic will be open for the movement of vehicles in one lane. It is a natural phenomenon not related to the works but to the rainfall," said Ami Kozeli.
As a result, the road has been closed in both directions, making vehicle traffic impossible and causing 10 kilometers of traffic jams in both directions.
The road blockage also affected an ambulance that was transporting a sick woman to Elbasan Hospital.
The situation has forced her to be transported on a stretcher to cross the river from the other side of the road, which, as images show, is completely blocked by large rock masses.
