After two consecutive sessions at the Appeals Court of Kosovo, the decision on Mayor Erion Veliaj's appeal against the prison sentence is expected to be announced today at 10:00. Veliaj is requesting a lighter security measure in exchange for a property guarantee, while today Judge Engert Pëllumbi, who is known as the judge who sentenced Tahiri, will speak.

Businessman Elman Abule, in prison for money laundering, is also seeking freedom.

Meanwhile, the three businessmen Gentian Sula, Meriman Palushi and Shkëlqim Fusha are demanding the removal of the mandatory reporting security measure.

Yesterday, the hearing, which lasted nearly 3 hours, began with the speech of Veliaj's lawyers who stated their position regarding the new evidence presented by SPAK on Tuesday, several conversations intercepted while Veliaj was in detention in Durrës.

Lawyer Artur Selmani stated in court that the wiretaps where Veliaj spoke to his family members cannot be taken as a threat or intimidation for anyone, and cannot be used to aggravate the position of the mayor, who is requesting a milder security measure, even against the financial guarantee. Lawyer Artur Selmani emphasized the fact that there is no risk that, while free, Veliaj will destroy evidence, escape or intimidate judges.

Mayor Veliaj himself was in the same line with the lawyer, who said in the session that there is nothing secret about the wiretaps, while requesting an open session for the media.
