Does rotation slow down integration in Albania? Kaja Kallas speaks
Kaja Kallas

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, visited Albania this Tuesday. During the joint press conference with Prime Minister Rama, the EU foreign policy chief was asked whether the political rotation in Albania is slowing down the country's integration process into the European Union.

Kallas stated that the integration process requires difficult reforms and for this, political consensus between the parties is needed.

Question: Does political rotation slow down Albania's integration?

Kallas: I come from a country that has completed its journey towards the EU and is already a member state. It is clear that this journey requires the cooperation of all parties, as some very difficult reforms are needed, which must be fully implemented and for this, full support and backing is needed. What I understand here is that in Albania all citizens have given their support and backing for the journey towards Albania's membership in the EU. So, broad support. Albanians want to achieve EU membership. For this, difficult reforms are needed that require the support of everyone, not only the reforms, but also their implementation that require the support of all political parties.

After Kallas finished her speech, Prime Minister Rama intervened and said that the question asked by the journalists has the answer within, as it is universally known that the EU does not take sides or decide who wins a political process in a given country.

Rama: I don't know what you expect when you ask the European Union what is happening here in terms of elections. The answer is the only one and universally known: the EU does not decide when who wins and who loses elections in Albania and does not link its own policy to who is elected in Albania.
