For several days now, there has been talk about the possibility of Arben Ahmetaj talking about the involvement of other people in the affairs for which he is accused by the Special Prosecutor's Office.
However, the former head of the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana, Elisabeta Imeraj, says that as long as the former number two of the government Rama claims that he has not committed any criminal offense, the chances of this scenario happening are low.
"As long as he claims that he did not commit criminal acts, we cannot expect him to give us some elements of the event that happened, or the involvement of other people," said Imeraj in the studio of "Debat" on A2 CNN.
Likewise, according to the former chief prosecutor, the absence of former minister Ahmetaj does not prevent SPAK from continuing with its work in the search for new evidence and the investigation as a whole.
"Ahmetaj has given statements to SPAK. He expressed his position. We don't know what attitude he took. Or if he gave details that could lead to directions of what he will do next."
Imeraj says that "the absence of the former minister Arben Ahmetaj arrested today does not hinder the progress of the investigations nor the collection of evidence".
According to her, Ahmetaj chose to defend himself by leaving the country at a time when SPAK submitted the request for his arrest, raising doubts that he had information about this action of the prosecution.
"Ahmetaj's departure corresponds to the time when SPAK's request was submitted, leading us to raise claims that there was information that such an action would take place and he chose to do it in absentia. Ahmetaj is a citizen who has chosen to defend himself in absentia. On the other hand, the prosecution body, which will be coherent in its position, will present the measure of arrest in prison. It was expected that the position and the opposition would agree on the continuation of the actions. As soon as a security measure is given, it is announced in an international search and it is the bodies that discuss. The fact that Ahmetaj was not arrested today does not hinder the progress of the investigation nor the collection of evidence. Ahmetaj has committed 3 criminal offenses and it is related to Mr. Ahmetaj's individual actions, the prosecution has not given us a clear summary, has the incinerator affair been investigated in itself", said Imeraj.
