In a rare interview, shortly after hanging up his boots, Welsh football star Gareth Bale unexpectedly spoke for the first time about his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo.
For his former teammate at Real Madrid, in the seasons between 2013 and 2018 where they formed the dream trio with Benzema, Bale says that Ronaldo would get angry, slam his shoes and scare people with his reactions after matches where he did not score a goal.
Speaking on Martin Borgmeier's YouTube channel at the BMW International Open Pro-Am golf tournament, the Welshman confirmed that his relationship with the Portuguese giant has been largely positive.
"He was actually good, but he had his moments. For example, if we were winning 5-0 and he didn't score, he would go into the dressing room and bang his boots in anger. But he was a good guy, nothing wrong with our relationship, we had no problems," said the Welshman, who announced his retirement from football in January after six months at Los Angeles FC.
Bale was asked if Ronaldo thanked the team for helping him win individual trophies and the Ballon d'Or several times.
Initially the Welshman replied: "I don't know... I think he did, but...".
Upon seeing the camera, Bale pointed at it and changed the answer.
"Yes, he did," said the 33-year-old laughing.
Earlier this month, Bale caused a stir when he picked Lionel Messi as the greatest player to win the Champions League, with fans taking his choice as a slight to CR7.
