Dzeko-Fenerbache clash, the striker will not participate in the tournament in
Edin Dzeko

In less than a week from his transfer to Turkey, Edin Dzeko and Fenerbahçe had their first clash.

The former Inter striker has no intention of taking part in the tournament scheduled for early July in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where the yellow and blue have been invited to take part along with hosts Zenit, Serbian Red Star Belgrade and Azeri of Neftchi Baku.

The reason is totally political, given that Dzeko has openly opposed the Russian occupation of Ukraine.

Dzeko, who since last September openly opposed the friendly between the national teams of Russia and Bosnia, which was later skipped, has the support of several teammates, mostly foreigners.

But the leaders of the club are against his attitude.

Since the Bosnian has a contract to play in the friendly as well, he also risks a fine from Fenerbahçe. On July 9, the Turkish team will play against Zenit, 3 days later against Red Star Belgrade and on July 15 against Neftçi Baku.
