Bernd Reichart, CEO of A22 Sports, which is working on the new Super League format, enthusiastic about the news. In France, they think that nothing will change, while in Spain they call the Super League model selfish.
"We have earned the right to organize competitions. UEFA's monopoly is over. Football is free. The clubs are now free, there are no more threats of sanctions. We are free to decide for the future", said Bernd Reichart, CEO of 'A22 Sports'.
After the sensational news, the head of the company that is developing the new Super League project added: "For the fans, we offer the free version of all Super League matches. For the clubs, income and expenses of solidarity are guaranteed".
UEFA: The sentence is not an approval of the Super League
An hour after the decision, UEFA's reaction came in relation to the recourse won by the Superliga. The government of European football does not seem shocked by this decision. "The sentence does not imply the approval or validity of the so-called 'Superleague'. Rather, it points to a historical shortcoming in UEFA's pre-authorization framework, a technicality that has been discussed and recognized since June 2022. UEFA is confident in the solidity of its new rules", - is written in the communique of the institution headed by Ceferin.
"The sentence does not change anything, because the Super League project cannot be implemented. There are no French and German clubs, I don't believe there will be Italian ones either. Do it with Barcelona, Real and Porto, let's see. Where will the income come from? I don't think it's a possibility", said Jaume Roures, majority shareholder of "Mediapro", close to Ligue 1 in France.
Perez: Great and historic day
After the recognition of the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union, comes the reaction of the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, promoter of the idea of creating the Super League of Europe.
"At Real Madrid, we welcome the decision of the ECJ. In the coming days, we will study the scope of this resolution.
First, European football will not be a monopoly. Second, clubs will be masters of their own destiny. We see it as an opportunity to promote the races.
Today the Europe of freedom, football and its fans triumphs. Today, law and freedom prevail. 70 years ago we have already taken a fundamental step with the creation of the European Cup.
We will defend a modern project compatible with national competitions. It will effectively strengthen respect for "financial fair play". It will protect the players and excite the fans. The campaigns will intensify from today.
No one said ending a monopoly was easy. It will be a football at the height of the XXI Century. We will work without threats, without acting against anything and anyone. From today, the present and the future are in the hands of the clubs and their fans. It's a big day for the history of football and sport."
Barcelona and Real Madrid welcomed the decision of the European Court of Justice. While clubs like Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and PSG are against it.
"Our position has not changed. We remain fully committed to participating in UEFA competitions and working positively with UEFA, the Premier League and other clubs. Through the ECA (European Clubs Association) for the continuous development of the European competition", reads the statement of the "Red Devils".
While Bayern reacted through Christian Dreesen, the delegated administrator of the German champions and deputy. the president of ECA.
"The decision of the Court does not change our position and that of the ECA. Such a competition would represent an attack on the importance of national leagues and the state of European football. The Bundesliga forms the basis of Bayern, just as all national leagues form the basis of European football clubs. Therefore, it is our duty and deep conviction to strengthen them and not to weaken them".
