Former Manchester Utd and Wales star Ryan Giggs "deliberately headbutted" his ex-girlfriend during a fierce fight between them. These details are emerging from the court process, where Giggs has been charged with violence by his ex-girlfriend.

Giggs, 48, denies charges of obstructive conduct and assaulting her ex-girlfriend and sister. Peter Wright, the plaintiffs' lawyer, told the court giggs' relationship with Kate Greville, 36, was "interrupted by acts of violence and instability."

He said Giggs' private life included a "series of abuses, physical and psychological" towards Kate.

Giggs is accused of controlling and stringent behaviour towards his ex-girlfriend, Greville, between August 2017 and November 2020.

He is also accused of physically assaulting Kate and her sister at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on 1 November 2020.

Opening his case against Giggs, Wright said it was a "control and tightening" story of a woman who thought she was "loved and respected." He said Giggs was "adored" for his skills on the pitch, but behind closed doors there was "a much uglier and darker side of his character."

Giggs is accused of "losing control" on November 1, 2020 by headbutting his ex-girlfriend and then raping her sister, after the latter intervened to protect her.

The incident occurred on the day Kate Greville announced that she would be splitting up with her and knowing the former footballer's character also called her sister to help her.
