Crack at Inter/ Calhanoglu 'massacres' Lautaro: A true leader does not
Calhanoglu 'massacres' Lautaro

Hakan Calhanoglu has read and heard it all, then responded just as harshly on Instagram to those who have put him in the dock. The summary of his response is that “a true leader does not look for a culprit when it is easy” to put all the blame on him.

He responded in this way after absorbing the outburst of Lautaro Martinez, who did not mention names but with that "whoever does not want to stay, let him leave" opened a controversial front within Inter. He turned back the direct attack on the president, Giuseppe Marotta, who included the Turkish midfielder, putting his face to the insinuations made by the striker after the defeat in the Club World Cup against Fluminense.

Calhanoglu's reaction

A post on social media from his wife (“people who are not faithful”) paved the way, then the footballer intervened directly to censor some of the outings, denying and accusing each other. The beginning of the message is a clarification that Calhanoglu places there, at the top, to remove any fanciful reconstruction of the lack of participation in the tournament in the United States.

"After the injury in the Champions League final, we still decided to travel with the team to the United States. Being there, even without being able to go on the pitch, was important to me. I wanted to stay close to the group, to give my support. Unfortunately, during a training session in the US, I suffered another injury – in a different area. The diagnosis was clear: a muscle strain. For this reason, I was unable to play in this competition. There is nothing else. No backstage."

Attack on Lautaro Martinez

Having established the first point, Calhanoglu goes to the heart of the matter and openly says that he has taken some considerations about his person badly. He did not like them, he considers them insulting both as a person and as an athlete. And he underlines this in the following sentences with the reference to the "words that divide".

"Yesterday we lost. And it hurts. I experienced it with sadness, not only as a footballer, but as a person who really cares about this team. Despite the injury, immediately after the final whistle I called some friends to give them my support. Because when you care, that's what you do. What hit me the most, however, were the words that came afterwards. Harsh words. Words that divide, not unite. In my entire career I have never asked for excuses. I have always taken my responsibilities. I have played even with pain. And in difficult moments, I have always sought to be a point of reference. Not with words, but with facts."

Message to Marotta

Respect. It's the word that Calhanoglu mentions as an example, but to the detriment of the expressions used by Lautaro and the top manager. And here he destroys both of them.

"I respect every opinion – even that of a friend, even that of the president. But respect cannot be one-sided. I have always shown it, on and off the pitch. And I believe that in football, as in life, true strength lies precisely in knowing how to respect, especially in the most delicate moments. I have never betrayed this shirt. I have never said that I am not happy at Inter. In the past I have received offers – even very important ones –. But I have chosen to stay. Because I know what this shirt represents for me. And I thought that my choices spoke for themselves."
