Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is in the spotlight because of her participation in the Paris Olympics.
She has come under attack after defeating the Italian boxer Angela Carini, while well-known personalities such as Elon Musk or the writer JK Roëling have condemned her participation in women's boxing.
Many believe that Imane Khelif is a male who has transitioned and identifies as female, however there is much uncertainty regarding Khelif's past.
She is described as "biologically male" due to several biochemical tests that led to her disqualification from the World Boxing Organization in 2023, despite the fact that the year before, in 2022, she was declared the winner.
However, the type of tests that were conducted and the results have not been made public due to the confidentiality of the person concerned. At the time it was said that she had tested positive for high testosterone levels.
This has led many to speculate that Imane Khelif ended up with XY chromosomes that make him biologically male.
But there are many Algerians who say that Imane Khelif was never male, but was born female and identified as such throughout her life.
They claim that Khelif has hyperandrogenism, a condition that causes high levels of testosterone and other male hormones in women. The claims are supported by emphasizing that Algeria is one of the countries that has declared transgender people and transitioning to another gender illegal since 1966.
Several photos of Khelif when he was a child have been shared on social media, but it remains unconfirmed if it is him.
A WOMAN, she was, she is and she will be forever

Taiwan's boxer Lin Yu-Ting who competes in these Olympic games is also involved in the same scandal.
In March 2023, Yu-Ting failed a sex test and was stripped of a bronze medal from the International Boxing Association (IBA) Women's World Boxing Championship and awarded to Bulgaria's Svetlana Staneva.
