Orges Shehi

Orges Shehi was among the 24 players who were in Belgrade on October 14, 2014, when, having prepared for football, he unfortunately had to change from the role of goalkeeper to that of boxer, to protect his teammates and defend himself against the barbarians who invaded the green field to hit and rape Albanians.

Today, 10 years later, he watches the 2026 World Cup draw from the stadium of Kosovo's champion team, Balkan, as its coach.

"I was in the stadium premises in Suhareka and we were curious with all the staff and team managers to see the draw, ours and Kosovo's, and the expression prevailed... Back to Serbia...! We are a nation and the emotional feeling that they experience is what we experience too. It is a match of pride and I hope that our team will succeed," said Orges Shehi, Balkan coach.

What are the chances that a Serbia-Albania match will take place peacefully, without problems of that kind?

"It's been 10 years and people need to be emancipated and understand where their limits are. They need to understand that we are a nation that does not seek excess. And if those people, even though it's been 10 years, do not manage to be emancipated and understand where their limits are, then it will be a big problem for them, but I have faith that what happened then will not happen again," he added.

Shehi, although in the role of second goalkeeper in that match, was present to understand and listen to what the coach had stated before that match.

"Here De Biasi also has merit, who made a mix of charging the players, mentioning a little history, since in our composition, in addition to players from Albania, there were also players of Kosovo origin. Up to that point in the game we were good, then how events unfolded and when we entered the locker room, we could no longer talk about football," added Shehi.

But how can these boys who saw you more in scenes of violence than in football matches prepare themselves today?

"Today, players must prepare only for what they have to give on the field and motivation in these situations for the staff and the coach is easy because history comes into play as every player seeks to make all Albanian lands proud and has an extra motivation," he replied.

After experiences in Albania as a coach at Tirana, Partizani, Skënderbeg or Kukësi, Shehi this weekend registered his first victory in his second match under the leadership of Balkan.

"I've been in Kosovo for about 10 days, I took charge of the team two days before we played the first match and yesterday was the second time we managed to win an important match. It's a new experience as I haven't been to Kosovo often and I've been pleasantly surprised by the commitment of the people, the conditions in terms of courtesy and hospitality and I'm very pleasantly surprised by what I found", he concluded. /Top Channel
