Barcelona need to sell players to register defending Counde

Barcelona must sell players to register French defender Jules Kounde, says manager Xavi.

Kounde, 23, joined from Sevilla in July for 50ml euros, but has been unable to play as the club must agree to La League financial rules.

Barca registered four more young players the night before the league opener last weekend after securing the funds from the sale of television rights.

"At the moment, we don't know anything. We're on alert," Xavi said.

The manager, whose side face Real Sociedad on Sunday, added: "We are waiting. Kounde is a great leader and a great player. Hopefully he'll show that soon - tomorrow if he can play.

"He's trained very well, I see him in a good mood, but we have to sell players so we can record him."

Chelsea are reported to be interested in striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while Dutch striker Memphis Depay is also said to be heading for the departure.

"The transfer ends on August 31st and we don't know what's going to happen," Xavi said.

"Auba and Memphis are still here, so tomorrow we'll use them. But the priority is to record Kounde."

New signings Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Robert Lewandoëski and Raphinha were included in last Saturday's 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano.
