The Democratic Party has published the draft approved at the last meeting of the National Council regarding the primaries regulation for the selection of candidates in the 2023 local elections through the primaries.

Unlike the previous primaries, not only its members will vote this time, but also sympathizers or ordinary citizens.

Deputies of the Democratic Party and incumbent mayors are not subject to the selection and pre-selection process. They qualify directly to compete in the primary.

The candidate is declared the winner only if he receives at least 50% + 1 of the votes from the total valid votes in a given area. In the event that none of the candidates receives at least 50% + 1 of the votes from the total valid votes, then the two candidates with the highest number of votes go to a runoff. In case of an equal distribution of votes, the candidate or candidates who go to the runoff are drawn by lot.
