Closed-door discussions at the Democratic Party National Council meeting are revealed.
The Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Albania, Flamur Noka, stated that candidates for MPs will not be selected solely by the primaries, but the forums will analyze the commitment of each candidate, as well as the contribution to the diaspora vote "to secure 300 votes from Albanians living and working abroad."
"We have decided in the Presidency to present the regulation to the National Council. The primaries will not be held at the branch level, but at the district level. All options were considered, but we selected the one in accordance with the electoral system. The primaries will not be disqualifying, or with a negative vote.
This vote will not exist. The primaries will be qualifying. A threshold will be set for each district based on the number of Party members, the votes received in the last parliamentary elections, as well as internal Party elections.
"It will not be just the primary vote that will be decisive. The forums will analyze the commitment of each candidate, as well as the contribution to the diaspora vote to secure 300 votes from Albanians living and working abroad," he said.
Noka referred to the criteria that every candidate must meet, emphasizing respect for the code of ethics.
"A member of the Party has the right to vote for only one candidate. The date of the primaries is March 1st," he said.
