At today's meeting of the Council of Ministers, three important decisions were approved related to the functioning of the Armed Forces, the strengthening of civil protection, and the continuation of Albania's commitments within NATO.

The decisions were made public after a meeting of the Council of Ministers by the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi.

One of the approved decisions paves the way for the unification of military ranks with organic functions in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, in accordance with the new organizational structure approved. According to Minister Nufi, the new decision will bring more legal clarity.

"Since 2015, with the approval of the Council of Ministers and later with the change in structure, there have been several inconsistencies, which have been addressed in today's decision of the Council of Ministers," declared the Minister of Defense.

Another decision approved by the government relates to the fund for the prevention and management of natural disasters for 2026.

Within this fund, 44 projects will be financed, of which 26 are infrastructure projects and 18 are projects for the purchase of tools and equipment. The projects will be implemented by the Local Self-Government units, while the total value of financing amounts to about 650 million lek.

According to Minister Nufi, the investments aim to reduce the risk of natural disasters, strengthen the civil protection system and guarantee the protection of citizens' lives.

"All projects will be implemented by Local Self-Government units and will act as contracting activities for the procurement of all these services for infrastructure or for assets depending on the units. The total value of financing for the project will reach 650 million lek, while the rest will be financed throughout 2027. With this decision, we reduce the risk of disasters, strengthen the protection system and guarantee protection for all citizens", declared Minister Nufi.

During his statement, Minister Nufi also announced the approval of the extension of the participation of the Albanian Armed Forces in the NATO mission until December 31, 2029.

Albania will continue to contribute to this mission with a platoon in the function of collective security on the eastern flank of the Alliance. Minister Nufi emphasized that participation in NATO operations and missions increases interoperability with allies and consolidates Albania's role as an active and reliable ally in common security.

Meanwhile, Nufi also spoke about the agreement in the field of ammunition between Albania and Kosovo. He said that it is being discussed and very soon there will be a "business to business" day between Albania and Kosovo, but also Croatia, for which he said that more information will be provided soon.

"We are discussing a BtoB, "business to business" day with Kosovo and Croatia and we will let you know again very soon as it is decided," said Nufi.
