Until today at 16:00 is the deadline to submit candidacies for the third round of the President, which will be held tomorrow, May 30 at 10:00.
Negotiations between the parties so far have not produced consensus and no name has gone to the Assembly for the new President.
Until the third round, the majority left it to the opposition to propose candidacies for the new President, but the head of the PD parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj, withdrew from the negotiations. The latter accuses the majority of violating the agreement, referring here to his draft where in one of the points he predicted that the new name of the president would go to the Assembly with the joint signatures of Democrats and Socialists. However, the leader of the socialist group, Taulant Balla, said that they did not accept such a point and that an opposition would never deprive the majority of the right to propose a name.
In the first three rounds, at least 84 votes are needed for the election of the new head of state, while in the next two rounds, 50% + 1 of the votes are enough, ie 71 votes to elect the new President. From the current situation it seems that we will have a President elected only with the votes of the Socialists.
