Today's Assembly/ On the agenda, the dismissal of the RTSH Steering Council
Parliament of Albania

The Albanian Parliament is meeting today in its next session, where the dismissal of the RTSH Steering Council, headed by Leka Bungo and its 9 members, Ilir Kekos, Albert Minga, Dionis Papadhimitri, Engjëll Ndocaj, Edmond Tullumani, Mevlan Shanaj, Milena Selimi and Ardita Reci, is expected. Deputy Speaker Gëzim Podgorica and member Genc Përmeti have resigned themselves.

This whole process began after the violations in the race for the General Director of the Albanian Public Radio Television, now suspended. They highlighted a series of abuses by the RTSH Steering Council, from funds to conflicts of interest. The opposition and the majority have been on the same page on this issue for the first time and in the hall both camps are expected to vote in favor of their dismissal.

Meanwhile, the Assembly will also discuss amendments to the Electoral Code, which, according to the agreement between the parties, also foresees payment for the return of emigrant votes, but there will be no voting with foreign IDs as requested by the DP.

Also on the agenda is the selection of the Ombudsman, a process that has been stalled in the political dialogue since June 2023. The names have been supported with signatures only by the opposition, and will be subject to a vote by members of parliament to secure 84 votes.

1 of the 7 names, Vitore Tusha, Bledar Dervishaj, Tartar Bazaj, Besim Ndregjoni, Dardan Mustadaj, Edison Frangu and Erald Aga will also have to receive the support of the socialists in order to replace Erinda Ballance. The latter was elected in 2017, but is still in office despite the end of her mandate.

Also on the agenda is an interpellation between Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha and Democratic MP Asllan Dogjani, regarding security in the country.
