Albania closer to the EU, the president of the European Council comes to Tirana

The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, will visit the Western Balkan countries, including Albania, next week, as part of an official tour that will last from June 1 to 5, with stops in several capitals in the region.

The main focus of his visit will be Tirana, where on June 2 he will meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama and President of the Republic Bajram Begaj.

The discussions in Tirana are expected to focus on the European Union enlargement process, the gradual integration of the countries of the region, regional cooperation, and security and stability issues.

"My second tour of the Western Balkans sends a clear signal: the EU's commitment to the region is real; as real as the opportunity for enlargement. The moment is here. Now is the time to act and deliver results," Costa said.

After his visit to Albania, Costa will continue his tour to Skopje, Pristina and Belgrade, where he will hold meetings with state leaders and representatives of institutions.

On June 5, he will co-chair the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, Montenegro, which this year will focus on the theme "Shared Prosperity and Stability of the EU and the Western Balkans".
