Three years ago, Albania was shocked by a natural disaster, where on November 26, 2019, Albanians woke up to strong tremors of an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Ritter scale.

SP MP and engineer Luljeta Bozo in an interview on Ora News went back in time where she remembered those moments and described them as a scary thing.

Luljeta Bozo:  The earthquake was a scary thing, it is one of the natural disasters that happen often. It is a scary phenomenon. Most were unprepared. There was a lot of destruction, which is the truth. The first problem was to save those who were under the rubble. There were two main factors of construction in places where it was not necessary to build without a geology study and the second without having any professional. To calculate the stability of the object. People don't understand that in an apartment you can't interfere with columns, especially on the lower floors. The third factor is that people are indifferent, they watch something being done and do not interfere.

According to her, "thousands of families, 85 percent of the families, have been sheltered in Albania during these 3 years".

Luljeta Bozo:  Thousands of families have been sheltered in Albania during these 3 years. There are still unstable families, but 85 percent of families have moved into new homes that they never imagined. In fantastic apartments and villas. If you go to Baldushk to the ruined houses that the villagers had that would have fallen without the earthquakes, they have entered some villas that they have never dreamed of in their lives. They are gift houses because you don't pay any money for that work. There are 10 percent that have not yet been systematized, but their turn will come.

Bozo says that an extraordinary job was done because many funds were secured from abroad, since with our current economy we cannot do everything.

Luljeta Bozo:  It was an extraordinary job because many funds were secured from abroad. With this economy we have, we cannot do everything. We know the economy of the state, a not very strong economy. But who would have known that 1 year later, Covid would fall. EU funds went to schools, kindergartens and a part was covered by the state budget. If the pandemic hadn't happened today, we wouldn't have a single person without a home.

Why is there no government transparency when we talk about donor funds?

Lujeta Bozo:  I know that the funds are transparent. They have received funds and are repairing the houses themselves, but they cannot repair them themselves. The construction company will withdraw the money. Up to a certain amount was given to the person himself. And to this day there is a resident where the fund has been allocated but the work has not continued because the project is missing and nothing can be done without a project. There are some procedures that people cannot violate because the law is violated first, and if the rules are violated, the consequences are backwards, other earthquakes will come.
