Not only the residents. Against the SP proposal to merge the Municipality of Divjaka and its merger with that of Lushnja, the socialist mayor Josif Gorrea has also come out and joined the citizens' protests in the central square of Divjaka.

In an interview with Report TV, Gorrea explains the reasons why, in his opinion, this municipality should not be merged, while ironizing the SP draft by saying that the commission was asleep when it made this proposal.

The criteria for merging municipalities, according to him, have not been applied fairly to all municipalities, citing the example of Roskovec, which, although it is the smallest municipality in terms of area and number of inhabitants, is not affected by the new map.

According to Gorrea, Divjaka meets all the criteria to continue as a separate municipality. He argues that it is the third largest municipality in the Fier region in terms of territory, with an area of ??309 square kilometers, while Roskovec only 118 square kilometers. Also in terms of population, he emphasizes that Divjaka, according to the latest CENSI, has about 25 thousand inhabitants, while Roskovec has about 16 thousand, or about 10 thousand inhabitants less.

Another argument, according to the socialist mayor, is the historical identity and natural wealth of Divjaka. He underlines that the municipality has a mainly flat relief, fertile soil, the Karavasta Lagoon, the Dalmatian pelican, flamingos and numerous water sources, elements that according to him make Divjaka an asset of national importance.

"The size of the territory. In the Fier district, Divjaka is number 3, there is Fier, Lushnja, then comes Divjaka. We have 309 thousand square kilometers of territory. Roskovec, which will remain a municipality, are working people, but their territory is 118 square kilometers. The population of the Divjaka municipality is 56 thousand inhabitants. In the last Census, we are 25 thousand inhabitants, Roskovec is 16 thousand, almost 10 thousand less.

We are taking it from the relief. The relief of Divjaka is plain, one of the most plain municipalities, we have about 20 thousand km of plain. 3 thousand hills and 17 thousand pure plain. Identity. For the first time the name of the town, the village of Divjaka was born around 1440. It is much earlier.

"This region lives between Apollonia and Dyrrachium. Two world masterpieces of culture, art and science. Very old in identity. Divjaka has extraordinary nature, it has a lagoon, it has fertile soil, it has endless waters, it has the curly pelican, it has flamingos," says Gorrea.

Gorrea explains that they will follow the institutional path to formalize their position, including public consultations with all administrative units.

"The municipal council held an extraordinary meeting where they expressed their opposition. Yesterday, the file from the assembly came to me. We are reviewing it, we will follow all the steps. We will officially try to respond point by point, to the requests, to the amendments that the commission has decided. We will hold public hearings in all units. We will follow the institutional, regular and complete paths, to make clear the identity, economic power and natural resources that the Divjaka municipality has.

"We awaited the arrival of the file, we created a working group. We also invited the opposition to join us, if they have elements. After we compile this document, we will also make the appropriate approach, to convince the Albanian government that the Divjakë municipality is the national identity, which must not be lost, it must remain strong", emphasized Gorrea.

Even according to residents, the municipality of Divjaka meets the conditions to stand on its own, both economically and in terms of other resources such as the Divjaka Karavasta national park, the forest, the lagoon and the beach.

The majority's proposal merges 15 municipalities, which has led to protests in several cities, while the municipal councils of Libohova and Klos have officially opposed the project and are expected to send their positions to the government. Prime Minister Rama has said that the map is under consultation and that the voice of every citizen will be heard.
