Berisha: DP will not join votes with SP for the Prosecutor General!

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha , declared that the DP parliamentary group will not join the votes with the majority for the election of the Prosecutor General, emphasizing that the opposition has terminated any cooperation with the Socialist Party for the selection of names in independent institutions.

In a statement to the media after appearing before SPAK, within the framework of the "Partizani" file, Berisha said that the decision comes after the way the process for electing the People's Advocate was conducted.

"We do not participate in the selection of names. After their act with the Ombudsman, we have ceased any kind of cooperation with the SP in the selection of names," he said.

Berisha also focused on the institution of the Prosecutor General, arguing that he has been stripped of almost all constitutional powers and that this situation should be reviewed.

"Today, the Prosecutor General is the institution most stripped of any competence. When I listen to his reports, he speaks as if he were the director of police statistics. It is a wrong stripping that they have done to him, because it is a constitutional institution and cannot be reduced only to presenting statistics," declared the leader of the Democratic Party.

The election of the Prosecutor General requires approval by three-fifths of the votes in the Assembly, which makes consensus between the majority and the opposition necessary.
