When the implementation of the Tirana Court's decision ordering the return of equipment and materials seized from Panorama's editorial office within 48 hours should have begun, nothing has moved within the Panorama Group premises.

On the contrary, the situation on the ground remains tense, where the role of the state police and the Bailiff seems absurd, as they should have been on the side of the law by giving journalists the right to take their personal belongings, as stated in the court decision.

Although today, foreign embassies in Tirana, such as the EU Delegation and the Embassy of the Netherlands, as well as various media and civil society organizations such as BIRN, the Institute of Political Studies, have expressed strong reactions in support of the Fokus Media News journalists, the KAYO company and the state police have been involved in a deliberate ping pong game to prevent the journalists from returning to their workplace.

The EU, in its response, has called it important that any action taken does not infringe on the ability of journalists to exercise their freedom to convey information and to maintain the confidentiality of their sources.

"These are essential aspects of media freedom and pluralism, which are critical for guaranteeing the rule of law," the EU Delegation said today in its reaction to the situation created with the Fokus Media News media./ Source: BalkanWeb
