Parliament of Albania

The Parliament of Albania will meet tomorrow for the first time for 2023, where it will officially open the new parliamentary session. The session will be ceremonial and will start at 16:00, where the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla and the leaders of the parliamentary groups are expected to speak.

This parliamentary session coincides with an electoral year, as far as the local elections of May 14 are concerned, while the end of the legislature is expected at the end of July.

In this Monday's session, it is expected that there will be a debate between the opposition and the majority regarding the political and economic situation.

The Conference of Presidents decided on January 12 to hold plenary sessions on January 16, 2023, January 26, 2023 and February 2, 2023.

While on January 26, 2023, two plenary sessions will take place, one dedicated to the commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust.

The last item on the agenda of the meeting of the Conference of Presidents was the discussion of the request presented by 35 deputies of the parliamentary minority for the establishment of an investigative commission "For the verification of the legality of the expenses of air travel abroad of the Prime Minister in office, from dates 10.09.2013 to 31.10.2022".

Due to the failure to reach an agreement, based on the Regulation, the matter was referred to the plenary session on January 26, 2023.

It is expected that the Assembly will immediately launch a call for candidacies for the elections of the People's Advocate, since the opposition's proposal was not approved in December. It remains to be seen if the majority will continue the proposal for fiscal amnesty.

The treatment of the decree of the President of the State, who did not approve the law on decorations and titles, is expected with interest.
