Arms agreement with the US, Balla: Will be used for the modernization of the
Parliament of Albania

The Parliament has begun reviewing the direct loan agreement between Albania and the United States for external military financing of $302 million.

“This is a historic agreement for Albania, of particular importance for the country's national security that strongly confirms Albania's excellent relations with the US. It is concrete evidence of the US's trust in Albania. Albania has an increased commitment to increasing defense spending. Albania supports the new objective to achieve NATO's 5% target. Security and defense are strategic priorities.

This funding will be used exclusively for the modernization of the Armed Forces, equipment and defense services according to the highest NATO standards. The funding will be disbursed gradually according to the concrete needs of the Ministry of Defense. Albania will have 48 months to activate the funds, with a grace period of up to 12 months. Any use of the funds will be approved by the US Defense Agency, guaranteeing full transparency", said Taulant Balla.

The session to approve the agreement will be held at 3:00 p.m.
