Tirana Municipal Council votes in favor of dismissing Erion Veliaj, the decision

The Tirana Municipal Council voted unanimously today to dismiss Mayor Erion Veliaj.

The request submitted by the Socialists sought Veliaj's dismissal due to his absence from duty for more than three months.

The mayor himself, imprisoned and awaiting trial, argued that the absence was caused against his will.

In a meeting where representatives of the opposition but also socialist advisors spoke, characterized by the lack of tension and the presence of the media, Veliaj's dismissal was unanimously voted down.

The decision now falls into the hands of Edi Rama, as it is up to the Council of Ministers to decide on his final dismissal.
