Major General Bajram Begaj is the candidate that the Socialist Party will propose in the Assembly to be elected the new President of Albania.
While some were surprised by his name, the proposal for Begaj's name was not a decision of the last hours by Prime Minister Edi Rama. Previously, General Begaj went through the "filters" of Washington. Not more than a week ago, the Chief of General Staff of Albania, held at the Pentagon a meeting with his American counterpart General Mark A. Milley
After the meeting, Milley said that he had a conversation with Begaj, while adding that for 100 years the two countries have shared a strong diplomatic relationship. Wishing this relationship to be lasting, Milley writes that the NATO alliance is stronger than ever.
This was also the first visit of Major General Bajram Begaj to the Pentagon where he seems to have received the American "approval" to be the new President of Albania.
After the meeting at the Pentagon with the Chief of the Joint Staff of the US Army, Mark Milley, General Begaj gave an interview to VOA, where he stated, among other things, that the United States has recently given 17 million dollars for the Albanian army. while emphasizing that Albania will continue to play its role for stability in the region.
