Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed confidence that every issue with Greece will be resolved by 2028. This time coincides with Italy taking over the presidency of the European Council, which is seen as our country's goal to launch political negotiations for EU membership.
She made the statement during a press conference with her Italian counterpart, following the joint meeting between the two governments held this Thursday in Rome.
"I would say that both Italy and Greece are two neighboring countries. After going through a difficult moment, we are on the right track. We are working well together. For us, the values, the principles of protecting minorities are values ??and principles inseparable from the existence of democratic Albania. And when Greece acts before us, or calls us in this direction, or perhaps makes us some remarks, they are welcome. In the meantime, we are also working on the rest and I am very optimistic about the fact that for 2028, when Italy will have the presidency and Giorgia will have to lead the political negotiations for Albania's membership in Europe, there will be no need to listen to Qirjakos, because it will mean that by then we will have resolved everything."
While Meloni, responding to the question of what Italy would do if we had a problem from Greece, she said:
"It is clear that we will support the positive conclusion of the political dialogue. But I can say, I know that there are some frictions, difficulties. I know my Greek friends and I want to say that they are people who have always worked for the good and the future of Europe. I believe this is enough to say that there is nothing to fear in this regard."
