The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, in the first meeting he held with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, underlined the importance of the TAP gas pipeline project for Albania, which, as a transit country, aims to become a beneficiary country of gas transmission.

Begaj reminded President Aliyev of Albania's support for his country in the international arena, even in the conflict with Armenia. President Aliyev used his first visit to Tirana to attack the government of Armenia and to declare cooperation with our country in a number of vital sectors.

We discussed the proposal of the Azerbaijani side for the opening of the Embassy in our country. This is a proposal that we welcome and appreciate as a sign of the consolidation of relations and the need to accelerate the pace of cooperation as two friendly countries.

The head of state said that part of the conversation was the need to hold the Joint Economic Commission in 2023, as the best political-technical instrument to set concrete cooperation milestones and program continuity for the coming years. Albania, as a transit country within the TAP, intends to return to a beneficiary country of gas transmission,  said Begaj

In the framework of the cooperation with the EU, Albania and all the Balkan countries must create the gasification infrastructure and the necessary capacities by 2030. Thus, the gasification process of Albania opens up new opportunities for cooperation.

Begaj reminded his Azerbaijani counterpart that Tirana has always been supportive of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity in the international arena.

And in this context, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, issued strong accusations against Armenia, which, according to him, has been ignoring international resolutions on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh for decades.

'Kjo mbështetje ka qenë gjithmonë e ndërsjellë. Ne e vlerësojmë fort këtë mbështetje. Qoftë në fazën e pushtimit e po kështu edhe gjatë fazës së luftës në Nagorno-Karabakh, që si rezultat pati çlirimin e tokave të të parëve tanë dhe vendosjen e të drejtave ndërkombëtare. Ju referuat rezolutat e OKB-së.

Më duhet të them që ato janë miratuar prej 27 vitesh, por nuk janë zbatuar. Armenia nuk i ka zbatuar kurrë, në fakt i ka shpërfillur ato dhe komuniteti ndërkombëtar thjesht ka mbyllur sytë ndaj kësaj. Nuk ka pasur asnjë sanksion të vendosur kundër Armenisë pavarësisht kërkesave tona.

The taking of 20% of Azerbaijani territory was a crime, an illegal settlement on Azerbaijani territory. These lands had become lifeless. Out of 67 mosques, 65 have been destroyed. And they kept animals there and this hurt the feelings of the Azerbaijani people.

We had to establish justice and now the Azerbaijani flag is flying in these lands and life is returning there. Of course for our people, our country, it is also your country's support for us. I am really grateful for this support ,' said the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Alizev.
