The case of Fredi Beleri, who over 237 thousand Greeks voted to be a member of the European Parliament, is most likely the only one in history.

Convicted for buying votes in Albania, he becomes a member of the European Union legislators.

Beleri was ranked fourth among those voted as a candidate in the Greek elections and became one of the 21 Greek MEPs in the EP and one of the 7 elected by Mitsotakis' New Democracy party.

Beleri from Fier prison, where he has been since May 12, 2023 for vote buying, called his victory a triumph of light over darkness.

MEPs have immunity only in the member states of the European Union and not in Albania.

The SPAK investigative group said that his election has no effect and that the process continues, while the decisions of the Albanian courts are sovereign, writes the Albanian.

His 13 months of imprisonment so far count as 20 months, as they are remand.

On the other hand, a verdict of not guilty, even though it seems difficult, from the Appeal would put Beleri before the election, between Himara or the position as a member of the European Parliament.

But a quick decision by the Court of Appeal does not seem to interest Freddy Beller, the last hearings have failed as his lawyers did not show up.

The new MEP would probably be interested in becoming a debate issue in the new European Parliament.

The next session when the Greek MEP Fredi Beleri appears before the court is on Friday, June 14, and it will be expected what his strategy will be.
