The Democratic Party of Albania will not be allowed to vote in the Congress of the European People's Party to be held in Rotterdam, where the President of the EPP will be voted. This is the first time that the DP has not been allowed to vote since joining this European political organization.
Floriana Garo, the spokesperson of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, reacted after this news, saying that PPE maintains a neutral position on the conflict in its Albanian sister.
According to the DP, the EPP has decided not to invite an official delegation from the DP to its Congress, until there is a final solution to the issue of official DP representation.
Albana Vokshi, Belind Këlliçi and Jorida Tabaku were invited to the EPP Congress, but as delegates to European forums.
"The announcements of the Rama-Basha disinformation office spread in some media that the DP has been expelled or suspended from the European People's Party (EPP) are fabrications without any basis.
The EPP has maintained and continues to maintain a completely neutral stance regarding the internal developments in the DP.
To this end, at the end of March 2022, the EPP decided not to invite an official delegation from the DP to its Congress, until there is a final settlement of the issue of official representation of the DP.
However, in order to give a voice to the PD representatives, 3 PD deputies have been invited and are participating as delegates of the European forums in the PPE Congress in Rotterdam:
1. Albana Vokshi, delegate from the EPP Women's Forum
2. Belind Këlliçi, delegate from the EDS youth forum
"Jorida Tabaku, delegate from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe", declared Garo.
Meanwhile, a few days ago, the Christian Democrat MP in the German Parliament, Gunther Krichbaum made a strong statement against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha. He stated that if Berisha was re-elected chairman of the Democratic Party, then he would commit "to suspend the procedures for membership at the level of the European People's Party. "Because we, as the European People's Party, must move forward."
