TIRANA - The Democratic Party is indeed in crisis, but internal developments fully justify its name. The internal democracy boils and boils, and here we are talking about the healthiest section of the DP, i.e. the section that the almost departed ex-chairman Lulzim Basha left in safekeeping to his friend Enkelejd Alibeaj until he finished some property work and bills of lights in the Netherlands.

Patronageist learns that the democratic instinct has been sharpened so much in the official DP during these months by Alibeaj, that he practiced appointing two or more candidates and putting them to the vote, even for routine party processes, such as which of the staff of the headquarters he would go to buy pies for the deputies, during the marathon meetings. For scientific accuracy, we emphasize that with Luli's return, Enkelejd himself comes out and buys the pies.

But healthy democracy does not end here, on the contrary. Expressing his desire to regain the head of the DP, Basha announced his candidacy for the presidency. He declared that he could not stand aside and mind his own business, because his heart was crying for the party's collapse. Carafili, who declared his wealth to be one million euros when his father Saliu brought him here from Kosovo 18 years ago; who went through three ministries and did not leave a tender or business without sticking his nose through his brother-in-law, declared that he had decided to sacrifice by returning to politics.

But the flaws of democracy bring you in front of strong rivals that seriously endanger the desire to sacrifice. This is what happened to Lulash: An equally strong candidate for the head of the Democratic Party came before him. So strong, that even Enkleid himself is put in a dilemma whether he should continue to support Luli. His name is Jorgo Hani, but he should not be confused with Stavros Hani, because it is just a coincidence of names.

Hani also wants to become the chairman of the DP and the race appears fierce. He has promised that under his leadership, PD will really open its doors to young people, but it will no longer be Han without gates. Therefore, this rivalry has seriously embarrassed the eggplant-haired candidate.

It is not the first time that intra-party contests in pluralist Albania have pitted powerful rivals against each other. The clashes for the head of the Socialist Party in 1999 between the anonymous Prime Minister Fatos Nano and the charismatic candidate Shkëlqim Meta will remain in history. The latter, with a black handbag as a cooperative normist, endangered Nano so much that, recognizing his competitive merits, Fatosi later appointed him director of Prisons. "I miss Iliri (Meta) with this head with corners," Nano told him, "so the Director of Prisons, stay still."

Although he accepted the post, Shkëlqim Meta did not ask for the head of the SP. Therefore, in 2007, he ran again, this time against Edi Rama. He narrowly won, and the result was close, 95% to 5%.  

However, the iconic figure of the strong intra-party rival in the SP will remain that of Maqo Lakror. Until 2009, when he ran in front of Edi Rama, Maqo was an interesting MP, a respected intellectual of the party. But Maqo was alienated when he decided to challenge Rama. He promised a fierce principled fight against Rama's failures, and declared that he would go from village to village and town to town to convince the socialists. It's just that he was a little thin on money, and he traveled around Albania together with Rama, who had a car, a driver and buttermilk pies. As a result, Maqo also surpassed Shkelqim Meta: He received a full 6.7% of the votes, against only 93% of Rama.

With maqoidal-lacroristic colors, despite being quite special in their kind, were also the races for the presidency in LëSëiii. After Lilua left for the Presidency, the party elected the experienced mayor Titto di Basilio as chairman, who held the post for two months. But Lilo's wife, Mari-Antoineta Testagrande, ate up the soul of the lonely Lilo, "why leave the party to that dead man, how will I be a raven, what a black man, what an indifferent man I have, what a beautiful woman found" etc. etc. So Di Basilio resigned and after the new elections, the party forums attended by all of Lilo's cleaners, baby-sitters, cooks and couriers, plus nephews and second and third cousins, decided to elect Marie-Antoinette as president. At the end of July, the competition between Lulash and Han of Stavros is expected to develop strongly. If it is close, the result can be contested all the way to the Constitutional Court, where Enkelejdi has appointed his fiancee as a judge, with the help of Lilo. In order not to reach this point, Basha is taking serious measures. The first step is to re-dye your hair with eggplant and present yourself, just like 18 years ago, as the new blood of the party...
