TIRANA – At yesterday's meeting, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania made the historic decision to double salaries, pensions, prices, taxes, customs, school fees, kindergarten and nursery school fees, and everything else that depends on the executive branch.

The decision comes as a fulfillment of an early promise by the government, but goes beyond it, in light of taking rapid steps towards EU membership, says a statement from the Prime Minister's press office.

It is worth remembering that starting from the last mandate, the government began experimenting with some partial salary increases, mainly for uncorrupted police officers and idealistic teachers, gradually moving on to more serious steps such as increasing low pensions by 2-3%, to index them with inflation which was 4-5%. Also, in addition to increasing low pensions, measures were taken to reduce high pensions, in order to avoid what in economic language is called “working Larua and eating Balua” , and to reach the well-known Keynesian equilibrium: “Working both Larua and Balua, so that Malua can eat”.

Subsequently, the government has donated a turkey for each pensioner every year for the New Year. However, protests from activists and warnings from environmental experts that this would lead to a decrease in marine life led the prime minister to decide that instead of a turkey, pensioners would receive a goose neck, and on special occasions, a Shero's opinga.

But thanks to excellent economic performance, it seems that the country has entered a new phase of prosperity: Enough with partial measures to throw the river, because even the horses have decreased.

These justifications, Patronazhisti learns, were articulated in the last cabinet meeting, where the giant step was decided by a majority vote:

Not only a doubling of salaries and pensions, but also of other indicators, equally important for a healthy economy, such as prices, taxes, interest, customs, and any payment for services that depend on the state.

Meanwhile, the government will work with interest groups to double those indicators that do not directly depend on the state budget, such as inflation, the entry of dirty money into the country, the exit of laundered money abroad, the corruption perception index, the number of accidents, the quality of murders, etc.

According to the press office's announcement, although it is a difficult mission, special work will be done with the Albanian diaspora to achieve a doubling of remittances, that is, the salary money that emigrants send back to their homeland.

So far, the data is encouraging, because a doubling has also occurred in this sector: The number of family members of immigrants who flee the country has doubled.
