James Earl Jones is the legendary voice behind the 'evil' Darth Vader, but it looks like the 91-year-old will finally retire.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Star Wars supervising sound editor Matthew Wood said that Jones was "looking to bring closure to this... character."
Jones' voice was recreated from the original Star Wars films for the recent Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
Some of the archival recordings of Jones' voice were also used. For future Star Wars projects, Jones has reportedly given permission to Disney and Lucasfilm to use artificial intelligence and archival recordings to recreate his voice.
The actor is credited for his advice on playing Darth Vader to Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Wood describing him as "a benevolent godfather".
Jones' family told Wood how pleased they were with the finished product from Ukraine-based voice cloning company Respeecher.
Respeecher previously worked with Lucasfilm to create the voice of a young Luke Skywalker for another Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett.
Wood told Vanity Fair that working during the Russian occupation had been challenging for the team in Kiev.
Jones voiced Darth Vader in the original Star Wars film which came out in 1977 and follows The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
He has since reprized the role in films such as the first part of the Star Wars anthology series, Rogue One, and the third part of the sequel trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Different actors during this period wore the costume of Darth Vader, but the voice remained the same; that of Jones.
