Just a few days after Michael Schumacher appeared for the first time in "public", at the wedding of his daughter Gina Schumacher, the media have revealed the way the legend of Formula 1 communicates with his family after the accident.
Gina Schumacher married her boyfriend Iain Bethke at the family's luxury villa in Majorca, which her father bought for £27m in 2017. Guests were reportedly banned from taking their phones to the wedding after the seven-time F1 champion was present and the family made sure that no images of Schumacher were published in the media.
The 55-year-old has virtually disappeared from public life since his skiing incident at a resort in Switzerland in 2013, the accident that put him in a coma, writes A2.
A year after the accident, Schumacher emerged from a coma and continued a long rehabilitation phase, but few details have been revealed about his health since then.
Among the few who have spoken are former Formula 1 team boss Flavio Briatore and his ex-wife Elisabetta Gregoraci, who revealed that Schumacher communicates. "Michael doesn't speak, he communicates with his eyes. Only three people can visit it and I know who they are. They moved to Spain and his wife has set up a hospital in that house," Gregoraci confessed.
Spanish newspapers reported as early as 2020 that Schumacher had moved to a more permanent base at the Las Brisas villa in south-west Mallorca.
Rumors that Schumacher is unable to speak were supported by his son, Mick, during a Netflix documentary about his father's life that was released in 2021.
He said, "I think dad and I understand each other in a different way now."
The last proper update fans got on Schumacher was in 2023, when it was reported that Schumacher had driven a Mercedes AMG sports car in an attempt to stimulate the areas of his brain he once used for racing.
