On October 10, 2013, Torbjørn “Thor” Pedersen left his job, girlfriend and family behind in Denmark to embark on an epic journey.

His purpose? To visit any country in the world without flying.

Torbjorn Pedersen set three strict rules to follow during the epic adventure.

His rules were: spend at least 24 hours in each country, live on a budget of about $20 a day, and hold off on wanting to return home until the challenge is completely over.

And just a few months ago (May 24), that fateful day finally arrived when, after a decade of tireless travel, the 44-year-old scored his 203rd and final spot on the list.

Pedersen, who traveled as a goodwill ambassador for the Danish Red Cross, can now proudly say he has an impressive travel record. During 3576 days, the Dane traveled by 379 container ships, 158 trains, 351 buses, 219 taxis, etc., covering a total of 359 thousand incredible kilometers.

Speaking about the 10-year project, Pedersen told CNN that he began the journey with a particularly inspiring thought: "A stranger is a friend you've never met."

"I have been proven many times that this is true. If you come into contact with people, they are usually ready for it," he added.

Pedersen revealed that he stayed at the homes of "many, many strangers" during the trip.

"I've been through every country in the world, even those with armed conflicts, even those with virus outbreaks - without injury," he explained. "Either I'm the luckiest man in the world, or the world is in a lot better shape than most people think because of the scary and dramatic news on social media and television."

While most of the experiences were "wonderful" and "special," there were a few bumps along the way.

The biggest obstacle was the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, which left him stranded in Hong Kong for two full years.

Pedersen is now happily planning to start a family with his wife Le and is collaborating with Canadian filmmaker Mike Douglas on the documentary The Impossible Journey.

He also plans to write a book about his journey.
