A snake-like fish has been discovered for the second time in a few weeks. The first time, fishermen in Chile found the 16-meter-long fish, and now another fish of the same type has been caught in a trap off the coast of Mexico.
Silver in color, this fish looks like a snake. It is called an oar fish and is rarely seen on the surface because it lives in the depths of 200-1000 meters below sea level.
According to the old tradition in Mexico, this type of fish when it comes to the surface means that bad news is near.
Some think that seismic shocks in the ocean drive creatures to the surface and that these shocks can cause earthquakes. But this is not the only thing that the Mexican people think. Even in Japan, oar fish warn of earthquakes.
In Japan, 'Ryugo No Tsukai' is the name of the strange-looking fish and it is interpreted by the Japanese people as a message from the "Lord of the Seas".
Legend has it that a giant sea serpent that lived in a place called Namazu caused earthquakes when it surfaced.
The Geophysical Institute in Ecuador emphasized that an earthquake and the emergence of an oar fish in coastal waters has only happened once at the same time.
