All over the world, the spirit of the end of the year holidays has started to be felt with Christmas trees, streets and markets that have lit up the country.
Meanwhile, for anyone who wants to put up the Christmas tree before December 6, they can do so under the pretext that "science allows".
In 2017, a study found that people who decorate the tree earlier feel the holiday spirit more and are therefore happier.
Psychologist Deborah Serani confirmed to TODAY that it's true: Putting up the tree early can definitely improve mood.
"It creates that neurological change that can produce happiness," she said.
"I think that anything that takes us out of our normal routine, the normal day, is a signal to our senses that then measures whether it's pleasant or not, and putting up a tree is definitely something pleasant that triggers dopamine, a hormone that helps the mood", said Serani.
But what, exactly, triggers those happy hormones? For starters, bright lights and colors. Chromotherapy, or color therapy, which is thought to increase energy levels and increase happiness, may be one reason. Or maybe it's just the ambiance in general and who can resist smiling at a tree filled with lights and decorations?
Also, there is a new scientific field called neuro-architecture designed to understand how our lighted environments influence our behavior and this is exactly the case of tree placement.
And of course the nostalgia factor also plays a role.
"For many of us, Christmas is a magical time, it's a time of innocence, it's a time of joy," said Serani.
That being said, anyone who wants to put up a tree in November can be justified by the fact that doing so makes you happier, something that is very important in this day and age.
