Instagram has started testing the new “Instants” feature, but users are not taking it well at all. The new feature allows you to send spontaneous photos to your followers or people you follow, with the aim of making communication more immediate and “real”, in the style of apps like Snapchat or BeReal. The photo “disappears” after the person you sent it to opens it once, but it is saved in your archives.
However, many people are complaining that the feature is not only unnecessary, but also very annoying and confusing. In addition to the fact that Instagram is already considered overloaded with new options, users say that the biggest problem is the positioning of the camera button next to the messages. According to them, it is very easy to press it unintentionally, immediately opening the camera and accidentally taking a photo.
Users are even complaining that they have sent photos to people without having time to understand what happened or without the ability to undo the sending.
Fortunately, there is a way to disable this feature, at least for now.
Here's what you need to do:
- Open Instagram
- Go to your profile
- Click the three lines in the top corner
- Look for the “Content Preferences” section

- Disable the option that allows their automatic display by clicking "Hide instants in inbox"

In some versions of the app, the feature may not be available yet or may be hidden within the testing options. If you can't find it and want to test it, another way is to update or reinstall the app, as Instagram often tests different features only for a few users.
At the moment, it's unclear whether "Instants" will become a permanent part of Instagram or if the company will backtrack after the negative reactions. But one thing is certain: users are not taking this change well at all.
