Even the Orthodox Church against the Veshaj brothers: Icons insult us with their
Archbishop Anastas Janullatos and Donald Veshaj

The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania has reacted regarding the video clip "Picaso" of the twin brothers Romeo and Donald Veshaj together with Elgit Doda realized at the National Museum of Medieval Art in Korça.

The church expresses its concern and indignation at the subsequent desecration of liturgical objects. According to the Church, that environment is unsuitable, for the values it reflects, for the promotion of such kind of music. In response it is said that the sounds of the song "Picaso" offend the sacred objects and cultural heritage of our country.

The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania requests the Ministry of Culture to return that environment to its administration. \

This reaction comes after a lawyer filed a lawsuit against the institutions on the grounds that the strong camera flash for the realization of the clip damages the frescoes.

The reaction of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania:

The music video "Picasso" shot at the Museum of Medieval Art in Korça, in front of the iconostasis of Rehova (which has not yet been unjustly returned to the Orthodox Church, under the pretext of "preserving" this precious heritage "), is a clear sign of disrespect" to these spiritual values. This environment is completely unsuitable, for the values it reflects, for the promotion of this kind of music. There, in respect of the tradition and culture that has created these sacred objects, the sounds of Byzantine Music would be adapted and not sounds that offend them and the cultural heritage of our country.

Icons are sacred liturgical objects, to which Orthodox believers approach with special reverence and respect. Therefore, it is unacceptable and painful for them to be treated irresponsibly by those institutions which are supposed to preserve and protect them. For this reason, we request again that they be returned to the Orthodox Church (based on Law 10057, Article 22/2, dated 22.1.2009, "Agreement between the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania"), which not only created them, but also preserved them with great effort over the centuries. Icons are best preserved and protected in church premises, because they are sacred liturgical objects and a visible part of the expression of the Orthodox Faith.
