The long-awaited announcement by scientists finally came and materialized with the first absolute image of the giant black hole living in the center of our galaxy.
The black hole Sagittarius A * was photographed for the first time and the photos represent an unprecedented visual evidence of the existence of this object, with results that will be commented in detail in the most authoritative international journals of astrophysics
The image, unveiled on Thursday, was captured by the international consortium behind the Event Horizon telescope - eight synchronized radio telescopes around the world.
Known as Sagittarius A *, the object is four million times larger than the mass of our Sun.
What appears is a dark central area where the hole is located, surrounded by light coming from super hot gas accelerated by infinite gravitational forces.
The ring is approximately the size of Mercury orbit around our star, with a width of about 60 million km.
Fortunately, it is very far away, about 26,000 light-years away, so there is no chance that we will be in any danger.
