Putin's proposal for an end to the war in Ukraine revealed

Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a proposal to halt the war in Ukraine along the current front line, as part of efforts to reach a peace deal with US President Donald Trump.

The news was reported by the Financial Times , citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the same sources, Putin told Steve Witkoff, Trump's special envoy, at their meeting earlier this month in St. Petersburg that Russia could give up its claims to areas in the four provinces that remain partially under Kiev's control. The occupied part remains with Moscow.

Witkoff will travel to Russia for talks with Putin this week, White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt announced earlier today. “We hope we’re moving in the right direction” on the Ukraine issue, the spokeswoman said, noting that President Trump has expressed his frustration with both Ukraine and Russia over efforts to end the war while making no progress.
