British disclosure: Doubts that Russia may fire on deserting soldiers

According to British intelligence, it is likely that Russia will open fire on its soldiers who desert from the war in Ukraine.

In an announcement by the British Ministry of Defense it was said that "due to low morale and reluctance to fight, Russian forces have probably begun to position the so-called 'blocking military units'".

According to British authorities, such units have been used by Moscow in previous conflicts as well.

"Recently, Russian generals are likely to have asked their commanders to use their weapons against defectors, first to warn them, and then possibly to kill them," the British Ministry of Defense said.

"The generals are probably looking to preserve defensive positions until death."

The tactic of shooting deserters is likely evidence of low morale and lack of discipline among Russian troops.

A day earlier, as Ukraine marked the holiday of artillery and missile troops, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised their role in the war.

"Ukrainian artillery became the strongest in Europe and one of the strongest in the world, and it will always be like this," said Mr. Zelenskyy.

He added that despite the physical advantage of enemy artillery, Ukrainian fighters are giving better results, thanks to their skills, intelligence, faith in themselves and their country.
