Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will meet with former US President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida after the NATO summit in Washington, Bloomberg reports.

Orban wants to negotiate a peace deal without consulting other EU countries or the Biden administration. In contrast, he has effectively avoided Joe Biden at this week's NATO summit and has not sought a bilateral meeting with the US president.

The Hungarian prime minister has quietly sought to negotiate a solution to the Ukraine war with the goal of re-electing Trump. Trump's lead in presidential polls has been bolstered by Biden's poor debate performance and questions about his mental acuity and age.

Orban, who also met Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Kiev earlier this month, has called for Ukraine and Russia to sit down for direct negotiations, talks Zelenskiy has ruled out in the past.

Orban met on July 5 with Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as Chinese President Xi Junping.
