The first Russian reservists to be forced to the front line as part of Vladimir Putin's partial mobilization have been given just four hours to pack their bags and part with their families.
According to foreign media, tens of thousands more have sought to leave the country, with hours-long queues at the borders of Finland, Georgia and Mongolia.
At the airports, those lucky enough to buy a one-way plane ticket out of the country before they sold out were stopped in line.
A man who was able to leave Russia said that all men were stopped at the airport and their documents were taken.
"All the men are now detained at the Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow, their documents have been taken."
As previously reported, the price of plane tickets increased significantly after the announcement, with flights to Serbia completely sold out.
Meanwhile, as of Wednesday evening, 1,386 anti-war demonstrators were arrested in 38 different cities across Russia, with more protests planned for today.
