Russian President Vladimir Putin is in an awkward situation, triggered by a sudden invasion of Russian territory by the Urkina military forces.

What appeared to be an intervention to distract Russian troops appears to be a literal invasion of dozens of Russian villages and towns bordering Ukraine.

The situation is not only embarrassing for Putin and the top Russian authorities, but also worrying, as it is estimated that the Russian military has suffered significant damage from the surprise Ukrainian operation.

On Sunday alone, the fourth day since Ukrainian forces intervened in the Russian kursk region, at least 100 Russian soldiers were killed in a convoy of 12 destroyed military vehicles as they set out to reinforce the area.

In Kursk, the Ukrainian army has carried a small number of soldiers, estimated to be around two elite battalions with over 1,000 troops. It is reported that they have already started building fortifications.

Air-to-air intervention by the Russian military is almost impossible, due to the new technology with drones being used by Ukraine, as well as the involvement of anti-aircraft systems in the attack.

Tens of thousands of Russian civilians have been trying to flee by taking valuables with russian authorities reportedly not yet organising coordinated evacuations in the area.

The Ukrainian military is currently under control of 430 square kilometers of Russian land.
