In 2025, The European Union will not participate in Eurovision.

Kosovo Public Broadcaster RTK has not received the coveted invitation from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Switzerland.

According to a post on Kosovo's official Eurovision account on X (ex-Twitter), the EBU did not give the green light for political reasons, writes Eurovision News.

They also confirmed to RTK that to participate in the European music competition, they must become full members of the public broadcasters organization of all countries.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008. To date, 104 United Nations member states and three other non-UN member states (Taiwan, the Cook Islands and Niue) have recognised Kosovo as independent, while 10 countries have withdrawn recognition.

At the European level, Kosovo's independence is not recognized by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain and Ukraine.

Despite the lack of statehood, Kosovo has repeatedly "touched" Eurovision through Albania, in cases where they chose as representatives of the Albanian state artists from Kosovo such as Rona Nishliu (2012), Lindita Halimi (2017) and Albina and The Family Kelmendi (2023).
