US President Donald Trump spoke in more detail about the Gaza ceasefire agreement during a meeting of his cabinet this Thursday.

He stated that "everything came together" to reach the agreement between Israel and Hamas earlier today.

"I think the attack on Iran (in June) was very important, because, let's say it didn't happen, they probably would have a nuclear weapon by now, several nuclear weapons, and therefore, even if we signed a deal, there would be a big black cloud hanging over it, and it wouldn't be the same," Trump said.

He added that he believes Iran "now wants to work for peace."

"They have informed us and admitted that they are completely in favor of this agreement. They consider it a great thing. We would like to see them also have the opportunity to rebuild their country, but they cannot have a nuclear weapon."

The US bombed several key nuclear facilities in Iran on June 22 of this year, after Israel and Iran exchanged airstrikes.

The success of the US attacks on Iran remains a matter of debate (this was widely discussed in June analyses), but Trump continues to claim that they "totally destroyed" Iran's nuclear program.

"This is war number eight," Trump says, adding that "all Americans" should be proud of the hostage deal and Gaza.

The US president also thanked the countries involved in the peace talks in Egypt, saying that "the whole world is united on this."

"People who didn't get along, people who didn't like each other, neighboring countries that honestly couldn't stand each other, but now they've achieved this," he said.

Trump added: "We look forward to the return of the hostages, and that is expected to happen early next week, hopefully Monday or Tuesday. All Americans should be proud of the role our country played in bringing this terrible conflict to an end."

At the end of the speech, Trump thanked some of the participants in the cabinet meeting:

“JD Vance, you were fantastic,” he said. “Pete (Hegseth), you were brilliant. Marco (Rubio) is fantastic… I think almost everyone in this room was involved.”

Trump also took the opportunity to remind the media: "We stopped seven (fights/wars), this is the eighth."
