US President Donald Trump has said that negotiations for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas are "going well" and that he may travel to the region this weekend.
"It's possible I could go there any time this weekend, maybe Sunday ," Trump told reporters at the White House.
"We'll see, but there's a strong possibility. Negotiations are going very well."
The US president added that reaching an agreement for a ceasefire and the release of hostages is very close.
"There's a good chance of a deal," Trump explained. " We're negotiating with Hamas and with many countries. As you know, all the Arab and Muslim countries are involved. This has never happened before. Nothing like this has ever happened. Our final negotiations are with Hamas and they seem to be progressing well," he said.
Diplomatic sources say that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas could be signed within the next day, if the talks taking place in Egypt continue at the same pace.
