Diplomatic sources tell Sky News that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas could be signed within the next 24 to 36 hours, if talks underway in Egypt continue at the same pace.

After this point, the stages of the agreement would be implemented, including a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

The talks are being held under the mediation of Egypt and Qatar, with the support of the United States. They aim to reach an agreement that would include a temporary cessation of fighting, the release of hostages by both sides, and the opening of humanitarian aid routes to the Gaza Strip.

This peace effort comes in the wake of escalating tensions in the region and following previous international efforts to restore stability, including the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.

Egyptian officials are playing a key role in facilitating dialogue, while international attention has focused on the possibility of an agreement that would temporarily stop the bloodshed and pave the way for broader talks for a lasting peace.
