The Kremlin reacted briefly on Tuesday to US President Donald Trump's statement, who warned of the imposition of new sanctions on Russia if Moscow does not make progress towards a ceasefire in Ukraine within 10 or 12 days.

"We have taken into account President Trump's statement yesterday. The special military operation continues," declared Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, referring to the war in Ukraine with the official terminology used by Moscow.

Recall that Trump stated during a visit to the United Kingdom on Monday that "there is no reason to wait any longer", expressing disappointment with Vladimir Putin for the lack of progress towards a peace agreement.

"We just don't see any progress being made," he said, underlining that he was less and less interested in holding further talks with the Russian leader.

Trump has had six phone calls with Putin since returning to the White House in January, but his latest rhetoric marks a change of course. He initially warned on July 14 of punitive measures against Russia and its economic partners within a 50-day period, a deadline that would end in early September. But his latest statement significantly shortens this deadline.

Meanwhile, Peskov in his response emphasized: "We remain committed to a peace process to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and secure our interests during this resolution." He chose not to continue commenting further on the ultimatum imposed by Trump.
